WWE Payback Kickoff
Dolph Ziggler def Barron Corbin
This match was alright, I was shocked as Dolph Ziggler won because I would think Barron Corbin would have won at his first main roster pay per view event but that was not the case, I guess they might have made him lose so that he can be more vicious as he probably will attack Dolph Ziggler on future shows like RAW and SmackDown and as for him being on the pre-show, it seems his push on the main roster has not started off well but at least it was on the card so I can’t complain.
Kalisto (c) def Ryback – WWE United States Championship match
This was a rematch from WrestleMania which was similar to their mania match with power moves from Ryback and Kalisto with his usual high flying moves and Kalisto got the win in the end, if he is champion I would really like to see him winning matches on RAW and SmackDown even if it is in a tag match this will help build him up and strengthen his tag partner Sin Cara in the process, I was amazed by Ryback’s offence as he went off the top rope and delivered a gorilla press to Kalisto. I feel Ryback needs some momentum, he is a talented guy he can’t just be losing to Kalisto on pay per view.
WWE Payback pay per view
The pay per view starts off with The New Day making an entrance to introduce the show, talk about the tag team tournament and cut a good promo as usual and ending with “Because New Day Rocks”.
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassidy vs The VaudeVillians – No contest
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassidy made their entrance which saw them do their usual shtick, shortly after The VaudeVillians made their entrance to boos not because of their ability of in ring wrestling but because of their entrance as it is not perceived well by the fans.
This match was going well with offence from all competitors in the respective teams until a toss from Simon Gotch resulted in Enzo sliding out of the ring but not before hitting the bottom rope which resulted in a concussion. He is ok, which seems to be the case as Kevin Owens tweeted a picture with himself, Enzo and Colin Cassidy showing Enzo in a hospital outfit and also that he is walking thankfully, didn’t really enjoy messages of people making fun of Enzo hitting the ropes.
Kevin Owens def Sami Zayn
This match was awesome, the video package was shown for this match which hyped the match up even more. I can actually see why this match was booked, it was so amazing. straight up action from both superstars one upping each other with various moves like Canon Ball from KO, Suicide dive tornado DDT from Zayn and at the end Kevin Owens secured the win, I think Sami Zayn deserved to win as KO has already had a good run on the main roster so Zayn should have got one up in this bout between the two.
The Miz/w Maryse def Cesaro
First of all, Kevin Owens sat at commentary which annoyed me, didn’t we see enough of him in his match. Why is are people always picking on Bryon Saxton? Owens on commentary was a distraction from this match, that was soon taking care off by Sami Zayn but later interrupted again as Cesaro took out both Owens and Zayn who were brawling on the ring apron later to be pushed off by Cesaro and then a roll up pin by Miz which was a bad way to end this match.
Dean Ambrose def Chris Jericho
This match was a war between this two superstars, both superstars are likeable. I was rooting for Ambrose to win this match in order to bounce back from his loss at WrestleMania, overall I thought the match was good. The announce table came into play as it did for Jericho for the build up for this match and then later back in the ring, a few knees from Ambrose that ended with Dirty Deeds and a win for Ambrose.
Charlotte/ w Rick Flair (c) def Natalya/ w Bret Hart
This match was alright, with the determination from Natalya to try and win the championship, a highlight of this match included Charlotte with a moonsault which I thought was good, the match ended in a contreversial way dubbing it as a “Chicago Screwjob” relating to the Montreal screwjob to which I thought was not necessary. This was a bad ending as Natalya didn’t tap but the referee known as Charles Robinson aka Little Niatch called for the match to end as he ran to give Charlotte the belt,He has a history with The Flairs.
Vince McMahon’s decision
I was really excited for this decision to see who gets chosen to run Monday Night Raw, Shane and Stephanie McMahon both had good reasons to why they should take charge of RAW but in the end Vince chose both Shane and Stephanie to run RAW together, in my opinion it was disappointing as I would have liked a one of them chosen not both, or even there are rumours of a brand split happening soon as they showed superstars Apollo Crews and Sasha Banks backstage having a conversation with Stephanie and Shane (individually)
Roman Reigns (c) def AJ Styles – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
This match was highly anticipated and I could see why because it was an awesome match, before viewing this match the possibilities of what could happen in this match were very exciting and it did not disappoint because it was an action packed match up. Shane and Stephanie came out separately to restart the match as there was a countout and low blow eventually the match became a No Disqualification match which saw Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson come to lay out Reigns not until The Usos came to the aid of their cousin and finally the match ended with Reigns hitting a brutal spear on AJ Styles to pick up the victory.
Final Thoughts:
- I enjoyed the pay per view, it was good.
- Favourite matches had to be Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles.
- Because of Enzo’s incident, I would have liked to see the match between Becky Lynch and Emma.
